Several users have reported issues with the Nano ESP32 not being recognized via USB unless they double-click RESET, or not running the sketch at all after the first upload: There are lots of forum threads and a major GitHub issue here:
espressif/arduino-esp32#10025
After lots of back and forth one user reported having recovered their own board by fully erasing his board:
espressif/arduino-esp32#10025 (comment)
I have written up the required additions to the recovery instructions in this PR. Obviously feel free to adapt and improve the wording. Thanks!
